Bedside Cabinets Purpose-Built for Healthcare
Healthcare furniture sucks. It would have been simple to just bolt a solid surface top onto a laminate piece of office furniture, but that wouldn’t fully fit the needs of a healthcare facility. Instead we used our classic engineering standards to create a purpose-built design with acrylic solid surface that has multiple build options while still holding the same quality for every version.
No need to worry about wear and tear ruining your bedside furniture, with Shield you can know that durability is key and replacements are rare.
Durability is one of the five recommended characteristics for healthcare furniture created by the American Society of Healthcare Engineering (ASHE) and is defined as the ability to withstand wear, pressure or damage. .
As told by the Continuing Education Center, “We often work within a value-engineering framework that requires balancing cost with longevity. It’s important that designers and hospital staff make the right material-selection decisions during the project so that down the road their surfaces stand the test of time.”
With Shield, you can be sure that your furniture will endure any outside substances due to our building standards with acrylic solid surface. By employing methods such as embedding stainless steel inserts and developing proprietary joinery techniques, not only do we use solid surface but we have perfected the building process to create our products.
What is The Bedside Cabinet?
The Bedside Cabinet is a minimalistic design that takes all the worries out of cleaning and functionality. With models of one, two or three drawers, you can customize what is needed for your rooms and be sure that your patients will always have space for their belongings. Made with non-porous and microbial resistant material as well as having a drip edge to minimize water exposure, you can be sure that the product will stay strong from the inside-out.
Created with acrylic solid surface, the product offers the best in aesthetics and functioning for a healthcare environment while not allowing bacteria to thrive and makes cleaning a breeze due to the non-porous nature of the material.
Within our designs we like to make sure that we are always staying up to date with modern technology and functionality, so we added in a few things to make the The Bedside Cabinet a little more interesting. Inductive charging uses electromagnetic induction so devices can charge on the surface of the cabinet without needing to be placed anywhere specific or plugged into any cord, allowing a patient to always have their phone in reach without being tangled up.
We also have a high top addition that lets you increase the height of the cabinet by 5”, allowing the furniture to be more adjustable for any scenario that comes your way.
SIGNATURE STYLE
Healthcare environments have tons of moving pieces and making sure that furniture can withstand people or other furniture makes a world of a difference in terms of lasting power. We know longevity means a lot for ease of use and budgetary means, which is why we employ acrylic solid surface that allows for cleaning without degradation and won’t harbor bacteria for healthcare associated infections (HAIs) which have become a key focus in the past few years, specifically since COVID-19.
As reported by the Continuing Education Center, “Durability across all elements rings true… Health care clients leverage a lot of solid surfaces with antimicrobial properties for high traffic countertops… With round-the-clock usage, these typically require frequent cleaning and may be exposed to water.”
Exposure to any outside debris can cause furniture to break down, but liquids in specific can create a troublesome scenario where it causes the inner material to deteriorate. Acrylic solid surface stands up to the porosity test, which also happens to be one of the recommended characteristics in healthcare furniture created by ASHE.
“Common materials used in furniture such as stainless steel and laminates tend to have a porosity of around 5%-27%. Though lower than other materials, we still see room for eventual degradation within these elements,” as reported in our article on surface porosity.
