Headwalls Purpose-Built for Healing

Ready for the all-in-one you’ve always needed? The Headwall and The Canopy Headwall offer a place to store and connect all necessary peripherals for patient care. We used our classic engineering standards to create a design with acrylic solid surface that holds up to anything a hospital will throw its way.

No need to worry about cords or tubing being out in the open, with Shield you can know that the durability of a product is key while also keeping a seamless appearance.

“Shield has gone above and beyond to manufacture the solid surface cladding on 245 complex and custom headwall units for the UCSD Jacobs Medical Center Bed Tower Project,” said Michael Watson, the project manager for Kitchell Corporation. “They have been very responsive to the client’s needs and have worked tirelessly to understand and implement the design. Without Shield’s expertise and craftsmanship, it is unlikely that the client’s vision would have been realized.”

What is the Purpose of a Headwall?

Hospital rooms hold a lot of equipment which means lots of cords and wires. With staff, patients and visitors constantly moving through the rooms, exposed wiring easily becomes a safety hazard. This is where a headwall comes in. A headwall is a piece of hardware that allows for storage of outlets, wires and med gas connections so a patient room can be a place that is easily accessible.

As told by Steve Ward & Associates, "Hospital headwall systems are designed to improve equipment organization and layout. This ensures a safe, productive working atmosphere for employees without worrying about stray cords and bumping into equipment, especially in an emergency."

What makes The Headwall Different?

The Headwall is a minimalistic design that takes all the worries out of keeping cords, wiring and med gas connections out of the way of patients and staff. With models of either 8’, 9’ and 10’ you can customize what is needed for your rooms and be sure that there is plenty of space to hold everything back that doesn’t need to be seen.

SIGNATURE STYLE

  • Microbial resistant - Nonporous, acrylic solid surface construction without substrates
  • Durable - Impact and scratch-resistant
  • Cleanable - Tests to no effect against common hospital cleaners and disinfectants
  • Usable - Low maintenance and repairable
  • Reliable - Guaranteed for life against manufacturer defects*

Being a modular, pre-fabricated product adaptability is built into the design and installation time is streamlined. Every headwall is made with the same design and outlet placements so no matter where you are, you will always know where everything should go.

Created with acrylic solid surface, The Headwall includes even more features that make the usability that much easier for anyone involved. Being both accessible and visually appealing, the product puts a focus on healing and helping a patient get back to feeling like themselves.

Special Features

Wrap-Around Panel

Fabricated from solid surface, The Headwall is made to keep bacteria and microbial life out while looking sleek and modern. But we didn't stop at the front. We know it is of the utmost importance to have the entirety of the product protected.

The wrap-around panel allows the sides of The Headwall to be secured with solid surface and keeps med-gas connections hidden. Our products will always look fully finished, while bringing safety and security to your patient room.

Modular Design

Modularity means our headwalls are quick to construct while creating minimal damage to the installation area. Built from pre-fabricated panels, the underside holds all med-gas connections and then the panels are put on top and snapped into place.

This method of construction allows for a seamless finish, giving you beautiful aesthetics and increased patient room security.

Lap-Joint Construction

Created with modularity in mind, lap-joint construction allows The Headwall to be easily put together and eliminates the need for additional materials. With no raised surfaces, there is nowhere that microbial life can find its way in and protection against water damage is increased.

Built in Med-Gas

The Headwall looks beautiful, but what's underneath is just as important. Built with NFPA certified med-gas connections, we are here to take some of the hard work away from you. We want you to put less focus on details and more on bringing your full patient room vision to life.

Customizable Outlet Arrangement

If you want to switch up where certain outlets are placed, we have the flexibility for that. Make your headwall work for you by deciding where you want everything kept.

Canopy/Integrated Feature Lighting

The Canopy Headwall supports two types of feature lighting; standard exam lighting as well as standard lighting with a constellation panel. The canopy works to make exams and surgical procedures run smoothly by having necessary lighting pre-installed.

Made with convenience and comfort in mind, The Canopy Headwall adds a little extra flair to The Headwall while keeping all of its best features.

The Canopy Headwall is a modular build and a streamlined design, so you will always know what should go where no matter where you are in a healthcare facility.

With options of thermoforming, lighting and woodgrain; theres really nothing it cant do.

It can be easy for headwalls to look utilitarian. After all, they’re just for hiding unwanted wiring and med gas connections, but why does that mean they should look cold or stark? We know that having a comfortable setting is important for patients to feel secure whether they are in the beginning stages of treatment or recovery.

“With the hospital headwall being the single biggest aesthetic focal point in most patient rooms, it’s important to consider the way they look,” said Steve Ward & Associates. “They play a huge role in defining the comfort and feel of the patient room environment. Also, it’s important that visitors feel comfortable and at peace in the patient room space too.”
